About

Piștău’s House

We found this house thanks to Father Calinic, our priest, who directed us to the abbot
Mihail from the Roșia monastery in Budești. The abbot had bought the house a year before and had changed it the plans he had for her. Thus, he sold it to us for as much as he bought it from the heirs Piștău, i.e. 4500 lei. We moved it in the winter of 2018 from Budești Susani to Breb.
Ours was the second move, the first having been made several years before, as evidenced by the markings with Roman numerals on certain elements on the front of the house. I mounted it in the spring of 2019 with Poșcai del aspru care’s team she took her tools once around May and left us with her unscathed.
I kept the structure intact and most of the elements, only changing its layer (the first row of wood in the structure) because it was rotten and the stairs from right to left because that is the configuration of the land of our yard. We completed the works in June 2020 just before Pentecost. We look forward to welcoming you to our doorstep to enjoy this wonderful home.

The story of the man and his house

Dear Guests,

This house belonged to Ion Ungurean (29.01.1973 – 23.03.2015) known as Piștău in his native village Budești (neighboring Breb). He inherited the house and the nickname of Piştău from his father and it is not known where this nickname comes from, nor what its meaning could have been. He was never married and had no children.

He was known as a very good man at heart, who did not hesitate to help you if you needed him. He was a hardworking man who worked in the forest and for a while in the mine at Cavnic. There were years when, from spring to autumn, he would go to be a shepherd at the sheepfold. But him and his money were not great “friends” and it cannot be said that he was a man of wealth. He loved to party, and a lot of drinking and cigarettes weakened his health. His life was short because he had a heart disease that killed him at only 42 years old.

Piştău’s sister and her husband were very happy after they saw how we saved and restored his old wooden house and that the story of his life, although short, remained alive for all those who will cross its threshold and stay for a few days. On their behalf and our family from Casa Moroșenilor, we thank you for being our guests and we look forward to seeing you again.
